Product notes:
Products CAN be purchased online through the Dollar Tree's website BUT you usually have to purchase a "case". How many items are in a case varies.
Every Dollar Tree is different! That specific glass jar may not be at yours or it may appear at another time/season. But, rest assured, this craft can be completed with any type of jar/canister/bowl/etc. that your Dollar Tree has in stock.
The Faux leather is great for small projects like this but can be tricky to find. The first Dollar Tree that I went to had about 20 EMPTY boxes of the leather because someone emptied them all out and STOLE them! Do not bet on your store having the roll/color that you need. Plan ahead for this craft!
You can use any glue for this project. I had this craft glue in my stash and it worked quite nicely.
Papa's favorite chocolate is Godiva, that's why I chose Godiva! As mentioned before, every DT is different. Some stores may have what you're looking for, others don't, some only carry items like this seasonally. Either way, you want this gift to cater to the recipient. DT has so many candy and chocolate items for you to choose from!
With the new price tag being $1.25, sometimes it will be more cost efficient to buy items like candy, bows, and filler elsewhere. To me, it wasn't worth the trip to another store!
I used and linked the brown decorative shred but DT has TONS of colors available. Brown matched the vinyl and chocolate AND I happened to have a bunch in my stash; so this portion of the craft was free for me. Pick a color that matches your gift's aesthetic OR work with what you have!
The bow I also had in my stash. DT does have many options for bows but I find you get more bow for less money at other stores; especially when they are on clearance. However, sometimes it is not worth the trip to another store!
How to:
Quick clean of your glass. Windex, rubbing alcohol, wipes...whatever you want. You just want it nice and clean
Cut your Faux leather.
Use a FABRIC mat
Use a DEEP CUT blade
Use "Faux Suede" setting in Cricut
Try to lift a tiny piece of the cut BEFORE unloading the mat. If it did not cut through, just press the flashing "C" again....DO NOT UNLOAD THE MAT UNLESS IT IS COMPLETELY CUT THROUGH. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RECUT IN THE SAME EXACT SPOT IF YOU UNLOAD AND RELOAD THE MAT.
3. Glue your Faux letter cut to the glass and let dry
4. Once dry, add your filler and chocolates
5. Tie a bow around the top. For this specific canister, I thought (for presentation purposes) that the lid looked better propped up (pictured) so I further fastened with a rubber band
...and viola! you're done!
This craft takes under an hour and only costed me a few bucks SINCE I had the filling, glue, and ribbon in my stash. You can easily complete this for under $10 depending on how much candy you want to get. Remember, You will not be using the entire roll of faux leather, an entire spool of ribbon, or an entire bag of filling. So this cost is also lower because you will be able to use the remaining supplies for future projects :)
